Children, especially young children, are active learners who develop new skills through their senses, investigating, listening, watching, playing, questioning and exploring.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum has 7 areas of learning and development:
-
Communication and language
-
Physical development
-
Personal, social and emotional development
-
Literacy
-
Maths
-
Understanding the world
-
Expressive arts and design
This curriculum sets out end of year standards, known as the Early Learning Goals. These are built on previous stages starting from birth.
Using a sequence of planned topics, we build up these skills, independence and knowledge, through play-based learning and adult-led activities. We supplement planned topics with child-led interests, giving children opportunities to explore their own interests.
