We are now inviting education professionals to apply to be our very first head teacher. At the same time, we are announcing we will be opening our doors to more pupils in September 2019.

Having taken applications for pupils in reception year, with a full uptake expected, Nerrols School is now asking parents to express their interest in entering years 1 and 2. There will also be places for 28 children in the new nursery which will be attached to the school.

The new head teacher will be appointed in February and start later this year. They will take over from the interim executive head Mike Snowden, who is also in charge of North Town School in Taunton. He said: “We are looking for an inspiring education leader who understands the unique circumstances of setting up a new school. This is an opportunity to make an enduring impact on education in Taunton.

“We were so pleased to have such a good uptake for reception places and are delighted to now be in a position to speak to parents of pupils years 1 and 2 about applying later this year. It’s been great to have had lots of interest from parents, they are really enthused by the prospect of joining our amazing new school, so that their children can make the most of all the opportunities it will bring.

“The learning spaces are going to be ideal for structured and creative educational opportunities. The outdoor space will have room for play, sports and social interaction. We are also so lucky to be located next to a country park where the children can do forest school activities. All in all, this is an incredible opportunity for some very lucky children.”

The £7m new school is being built in Cheddon Fitzpaine, north Taunton, to deal with the growing need for school places as a result of new homes being built in the area. It’s due to open in September 2019 with 30 reception places,15 places for Years 1 & 2 and a nursery for 2-4 year olds. Other years will be rolled out in stages, eventually taking on 420 pupils.

Over the Christmas period the main structure of the building was completed and the roof is due to be in place by the end of January. There will be 14 classrooms on the 2.7 acre site, which will include outdoor play areas and a 3G sports pitch. On the two floors there will be two classes in each year group, each with a maximum of 30 pupils, along with a ground floor nursery for 28 pre-schoolers.

To apply for places at the nursery or to express an interest in applying for years 1 and 2 please visit the website from 1st February 2019:  www.nerrolsprimary.co.uk/admissions to complete the appropriate forms.
