Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens.
We are proud to be a church school.
At West Coker School we strive to instil a love of learning and the desire to succeed. We aim to develop the whole child, in order for them to become conscientious, well-equipped citizens of the future. We grow confidence, trust and respect through our roots in the core Christian values and our ethos of collaboration.
The Christian story; kept at the heart of all we do.
We feel the story of 'Down Through the Roof' illustrates our values and unique community history.
In this story, four men lower a friend from a roof for Jesus to heal. This shows trust, friendship and collaboration.
Each man holds a rope.
These four ropes represent the four areas of Wisdom (Endurance), Community (Trust and Friendship), Hope (Hope) and Respect (Compassion and Thankfulness). These are the Core Christian Values (in bold) that we believe are most important to our children, both as Christians and as well-equipped citizens of the future.
Rope symbolises West Coker and its manufacturing history involving the Twine Works.
A rope needs to be strong and flexible, as we all do in modern society.
It can also be knotted to bind us together and bind us to the church, representing our community.
All strands of life entwined.
