'All Life's Strands Entwined'
Teacher: Mr Hyland, Mr Clapp and Mrs Sibthorpe
This term we will be learning about British life after the Romans. Our pupils will learn about how the Anglo-Saxons settled and left a legacy in Britain that still impacts our lives today. The children will then learn about how the Vikings invaded Britain many years later with brute force and little mercy before having to agree to share Britain with the last remaining Anglo-Saxon kingdom. During this time the children will compare the lifestyles of the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings before studying how the Normans came to rule over Britain by winning the Battle of Hastings. We will then be using our new found knowledge to complete a local study to decide whether the Anglo-Saxons or the Vikings settled in our village as well as making a range of evidence that we wish were found from their time in Britain.
In science we will be firstly looking at food and the digestive system learning about ecosystems and the importance of the food chains/webs within them to keep the ecosystems thriving. We will then be moving on to look at how we as humans digest food and how important our teeth are. We will complete a range of studies and experiments to achieve this, including a re-enactment on how we digest food.
We will then begin to look at sound. The children will investigate how sound is made, how it travels and how we hear them. We will then explore how different pitches are made and how sounds can me made louder or quieter before the children pose their own questions about sound and carry out experiments to discover the answers.
In P.E the children will be developing their fundamental skills (running, jumping, balance, agilty, problem solving, team-work, throwing, catching and coordination). After this, with the Football World Cup not too far away, the children we be developing their football skills by looking at the key components of being successful in a football match.
In food and design the children will be exploring how to keep food fresh, before making their own healthy snack and creating packing to keep it fresh.
In French the children will be learning about French Schools and how they are similar and different to ours as well as learning about the world around us from a French perspective.
